Salt, Baking Soda, and Vinegar!

That's the secret to our all natural cleaning products.

My cleanser of choice is vinegar — I use it to clean almost every surface in my home, from carpets to counters, and oh but I love its cheap and powerful nontoxic goodness. But did you know that you could pump up the potency of this antibacterial maverick with the simple addition of table salt. Amazing! A simple combination that will do double duty on those extra-tough stains, tarnish and mineral deposits. It will even eliminate odors

White distilled vinegar is a popular household cleanser, effective for killing most mold, bacteria, and germs, due to its level of acidity. Cleaning with white distilled vinegar is a smart way to avoid using harsh chemicals. You’ll also be glad to know that it is environmentally friendly and very economical. In addition to having numerous cooking uses, 100-percent pure, distilled white vinegar can also be used as an effective non-toxic, all-natural cleaning solution throughout your home. Vinegar has a wide range of uses, such as removing odors from rooms, cleaning fixtures in your bathrooms and kitchen, removing stains and spills from carpets, cleaning windows, and much more.

Baking soda, also known as bicarbonate of soda or sodium bicarbonate, is most known for removing odors in the refrigerator and in your home. It is also known for use in baking, but is also a non-toxic compound that can be used as a replacement for hundreds of other less environmentally friendly harmful chemicals. There are many non-poisonous products that can be used for basic household cleaning. Next to vinegar, the most useful of these is baking soda. Like vinegar, baking soda has three major things going for it as a cleanser:

  • It's non-toxic. Sure, eaten in large amounts it might make you feel unpleasant, but it's not poisonous.

  • It's multi-purpose. For one it can be used as great a household cleanser.

  • Best of all, it's cheap. The cost of baking soda (especially when purchased in several pound large boxes) is far less than that of any other, specialized cleaning agent.

Baking soda (or bicarbonate of soda, as it is also known) is a naturally occurring material, present in most organic life forms. It can be "made" from sodium carbonate, or soda ash. The soda ash is dissolved in a carbon dioxide rich solution, and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) precipitates out.
